People cry about things that shouldn’t be bought because they are too expensive

Ask any friend or family member, and they’ll probably agree on one thing: the cost of everyday things keeps going up, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to stop. Eventually, it starts to hurt your wallet – and suddenly, ordering delivery or that night is no longer worth the splurge.

Recently, Reddit user Wonderful-Economy762 wanted to know what things people can’t justify spending money on when they asked: “What has become so expensive that it’s not worth buying?”

The thread received thousands of responses. Below are the top and most frequent items that people said they no longer spend money on:

1. “Concert tickets. And there’s no need to go twice because everyone has their **** phone in the air the whole time, completely obstructing your view.”

2. “Junk food – a simple bag of chips is like $5.”

3. “Movie tickets are the biggest thing for me. I can’t afford to go to the theater anymore.”

4. “Haircut. It used to be $25 for shampoo + cut + blow dry. Now it’s $60 base without tip. I cut my hair now.”

5. “Sports tickets and club merchandise.”

6. “Alcohol!!!!!! I quit drinking back in February, and I swear I’ve saved a lot of money by eating out and not buying bottles of alcohol anymore. I’m so happy with my decision to quit.”

7. “New cars.”

8. “Dining out. I can afford it, but it’s not cheap, and I like to cook my own food.”

9. “Lots of shoes and clothes from thrift stores.” I feel you’re better off biting the bullet and sinking the money into something expensive and having smaller items, rather than getting stuck buying the ever-increasing (but lower than others) prices the thrift stores are charging.

10. “Delivery food! The delivery fee is ridiculous, and you have to tip the delivery person…I’ll go get it myself!!!”

11. “A drink at a restaurant. No, I’m not paying $4 for a Coke.”

12. “Lift tickets for skiing. I know that snow sports have never been cheap, but a day lift trip for the week used to cost $ 40 to one of the small mountains. That same ticket is now close to $ 100. The bigger resorts got crazy about $ 200 a day. It’s more than that. It’s already expensive that I think about it” complete.

13. “Anything recreational, like a boat or an RV. It will ruin your expenses and liability and break you as a person.”

14. “Cauliflower. One cauliflower can run $6 or $7. I was amazed the other day when I bought three and it was over $20 for 3 m’fn cauliflowers!”

15. “Fast food and cheap joints. The bottom line was that you had to put up with the quality and the conditions under which it was served in order to be cheap. If it’s not cheap, why would you subject yourself to that?”

16. “Cloth. I used to sew a lot of our clothes and sew a lot of cloth. But cloth is so expensive now that it’s cheaper to buy clothes.”

17. “Steaks. I used to buy red meat a few times a month, and now when I go to the store and look at it I can’t buy it.”

18. And finally, “Streaming. Streaming was considered a cable machine when it was released, and now it’s just as, if not more, expensive than just having cable. The only difference is you don’t have to pay for the equipment.”
